WhatsApp, owned by Facebook, is larger than Facebook Messenger, its sister, and you are likely to be on one, if not both of those applications. The two messaging applications have a total user base of about 2.8 billion users, each processing billions of messages on a regular basis. Both apps have some drawbacks and strengths.

Whereas WhatsApp is about the contacts you have saved on your account, Facebook Messenger is closely integrated with your Facebook profile. At the heart, both apps allow you to connect with friends and have functions such as free calling and group messaging. You can also post good status on whatsapp and messenger. In short, The two applications can not be more different from each other but there are some differentiation between both.

Here is the WhatsApp-Facebook Messenger comparison. Choose the one for you that you know is right.

Privacy: To keep your messages secure, WhatsApp uses end-to-end encryption. End-to-end encryption means that the messages and information it provides can only be seen by the members of a conversation. By default, Facebook Messenger encrypts messages from the sender to its server and then encrypts them between the server and the receiver again.

Transfer of images: WhatsApp enforces a cap on the amount of images that you can send. On Messenger, there is no such limit. In order to recognise your friends in the images, Messenger is well integrated with Facebook and deploys face recognition.

Calling: It is preferred to place calls through WhatsApp because it helps you to place calls even in areas where signal strength is poor. On 3G, Wi-Fi, and even 2G networks, WhatsApp operates effortlessly. Meanwhile on Messenger, group calling is better especially when you need to call 50 people! With no more than 4 individuals, WhatsApp enables you to start a group call.

Style: It's a personal decision, but the design of Messenger is far more modern than WhatsApp. Messenger has characteristics such as gradients that allow you to customise your chat bubbles in conversation to reflect your mood or topic of conversation using multiple colours. In the pipeline, there is also a 'dark mode'. Messenger keeps pace with the times, and WhatsApp even adopts some of these new ideas for its time.

Delete messages received: Unlike Messenger, WhatsApp allows you to delete messages sent. There are rumours that the role is being tested by Messenger, but the release date has not yet been verified.
