Will your dog go without bowel movement for more than one day? When pooping, is he straining? Is he producing tough, dry faeces? They are all symptoms of constipation, and may cause severe health complications when left unchecked. You don't want your pet to experience constipation pain or complications, so it is better to use laxatives for dogs.
To help your constipated puppy, read below some helpful home remedies:-
1. Fiber:- A common source of constipation in dogs is poor diet. The inclusion of extra dietary fibre will help bulk up stools and make them easier to move through. Canned pumpkin, which provides tonnes of dietary fibre as well as moisture to cure dried-out stools, is a tried-and-true food cure.
2. Exercise:- The dog can have sedentary behaviours that lead to constipation. Moving the dog can also help keep his bowels running correctly, as exercise will improve the activity of the intestinal muscle to help pass stools into it. The exercise requirements of dogs differ by breed, age and height, but one full hour of exercise a day is a good objective.
3. More Fluids:- Ensure that your dog has regular access to clean, fresh water. Particularly in hot weather or after extremely long hours of exercise, a dog may become dehydrated, and this may lead to constipation. If you think your pet doesn’t drink enough water, consider moving to wet dried food, or for added moisture, try adding water or broth to its dry food.
4. Aloe vera juice:- In humans and animals, aloe vera juice, made from the leaves of the aloe vera plant, has moderate effects. A small dose of juice combined with food or water for your dog can help move the stool. And its relaxing, anti-inflammatory effects, along with constipation, can help heal and relax any digestive pain he may experience.
5. Apple Cider Vinegar:- Another natural cure for all sorts of stomach problems is apple cider vinegar. While research on ACV for dogs is limited, it is safe to use as fermented apple juice is its only component. ACV is associated with battling illness, encouraging good gut bacteria and enhancing general wellbeing through folk wisdom. Constipation may be improved with a small amount added to your dog's water bowl.
6. Frequent Chances to Go:- Constipation is often not really a physical but a mental concern. When your dog is relaxed and in a safe environment, if your dog does not have ample chances to remove it he will hold his faeces for long, causing it to be difficult and uncomfortable when attempting to defecate.
